Research

In the area of research, the institute is contributing to the development of health and population policies, strategies, programme monitoring, evaluation and generation of new knowledge. Over the years there has been an expansion in the nature and scope of projects and research studies undertaken by the Institute. The spectrum is wide ranging from surveys and data generation exercises to exploratory and impact studies of health services and programmes. The Institute entered into policy research and development in a major way, influencing policy making at the state, central and global levels.

Training

Developing managerial and leadership skills at various levels in health care, including hospitals, is an important mission of the Institute. The Institute's capacity building programme has laid particular emphasis on strengthening technical and managerial capacity of programme officials, NGOs and researchers working at different levels in India and other countries in the South- Asia region. Over the years, it has acquired the distinction of an apex training institute in the country.

Teaching

The Institute offers several academic programs. These include full time regular on campus programs, doctoral programs, certificate courses and executive programs.We offer a two-year full-time Postgraduate Programme in Hospital and Health Management (PGDHM), three years long Fellowship in Program Management (FPM), three months certificate course on Supply Chain Management, ten months executive course on Hospital Management and one-year executive program on Public Health Financial Management.

These educational programmes aim at developing trained professional managers with requisite skills in planning and operating management techniques; diagnosing and solving management problems; and acquiring consultancy skills, with a view to preparing them to manage hospitals, and healthcare institutions in developing countries, both in the public and the private sectors, and to meet the rising demand for quality care.
